About Us
"The greatest thing you'll ever learn is
just to love and be loved in return"
Thanks for visiting Down Syndrome Pages. I am Rus Wetherill and we officially launched DownSyndromePages.com in December 2008. I am an IT professional/network administrator living in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have a wonderful wife Donna and a beautiful son Matthew. Donna has worked with people that have intellectual disabilities her entire career as a direct care provider, case manager, advocate and executive director. Matthew was born in November 1991 and we adopted him when he was 4 months old. He attends the Melmark School, works part-time two days a week, enjoys video games, movies and bowling and is full of pi** and vinegar. Matt has Down syndrome as well as autism and a terminal case of love that spills over to his family and friends. I know that sounds cliche when talking about people with Down syndrome but it's so true.
We have had the idea of producing an online directory on disabilities for years but the right combination of time, funding and software tools didn't come about until late in 2008. The features of this web site are really straight forward. At the core it is a directory of resources and information that would be useful to people with Down syndrome, their families and professionals. Around that we have created features such as a news page which aggregates news feeds from across the Internet about Down syndrome, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page, videos and articles. We are always evaluating and creating features and new listings are regularly added. We aim to be a hub for people looking for information about Down syndrome services, supports and products. We don't replace other web sites, we enhance them by promoting them and guiding our visitors to them.
We value feedback and want to hear from you. If you would like to suggest a new listing, or request an update to an existing one you can reach us on our submit-a-listing form.
Please spread the word about Down Syndrome Pages to your family, friends, teachers, doctors, priest, rabbi or minister. Blog mentions, tweets, facebook comments and back links are greatly appreciated.
Finally, we offset some of our costs by showing Google ads on our web site but that barely scratches the surface. There are plans to make this web site self sustaining by offering enhanced listings and selective banner advertising. Any advertising we accept will be pertinent and tasteful. If you are interested please contact us.
Thank you.
